
Here's a PhotoShop experiment based on a page from one of my sketchbooks, where I drew a sketch of
Aristide Maillol's (1861-1944) "Homage to
DeBussy" (below). I'm not sure what this girl has to do with a French romantic composer, but I always admired Maillol's solid, stable forms in a style that is partly classical, but at the same time beginning to be very modern, almost as stylized and abstract as
Mattisse or maybe even
Art Deco. Plus, "Maillol" is really close to "Mallory." I think it's probably just the French version.
