Distortion
Here's a page from the old sketchbook. I'm trying to teach my students that sometimes in order to draw something realistic, you need to be able to perceive the abstract shapes in the things you look at in real life. This exercise features the distortions created when light is refracted by glass and water. Using a simple spoon helps to emphasize the variations of values (shading).

Christmas Cactus
I should really paint in watercolor more often. I just introduced my Painting class to the media today. I'm not all that great at it, but boy it's pleasantly therapeutic.
