Right is wrong and Left is right

It USED to be that Democrats spend money on social programs- people and Republicans spent money on infrastructure. Dems paid for teacher pay, Reps paid for school buildings.
That most have been another world. Now Dems call for fiscal restraint and responsibility, pay-as-you-go, very centrist. While the GOP only spends on the military budget, but doesn't have a way to pay for it because they want to give the big corporations (esp. oil) and super wealthy a free ride, while the middle class gets squeezed and the poor get screwed.
Reagan tried to make us believe that government is the enemy. Government is US, it's our tool for taking care of ourselves, taxes suck, but they pay for things like safe bridges and decent roads. When will America wake up from our 27 year drunken stupor and act like an adult? Even if it means dealing with a hangover for a while? They say we're living in another "Gilded Age." I for one am not looking forward to another Great Depression.

FireFox designers

A long time a go a friend of mine who worked for a national lab introduced me to a web browser called FireFox from Mozilla software. Way better than either Explorer for PC or Safari for Mac, very safe, fast, and customizable. Anyway, I today I think I figured something out. I suspect their designers of copying their logo from a Georgia O'Keefe painting "Goat horn with red."

Impeach George Bush to stop war lies, deaths

This summer, I've been reading this book by the legendary Jimmy Bresnin on the Nixon impeachment called "How the good guys finally won." It follows the congressmen who brought the proceedings against Nixon. You wouldn't think that a book like that could be warm, human, funny, or optimistic, but it's all of those things. I highly recommend it to anyone- of course you have to search the web for used copies because it's circa 1975. I am walking in Rosedale on this day early in the week while I wait for the funeral of Army soldier Le Ron Wilson, who died at age 18 in Iraq. He was 17 1/2 when he had his mother sign his enlistment papers at the Jamaica recruiting office. If she didn't, he told her, he would just wait for the months to his 18th birthday and go in anyway. He graduated from Thomas Edison High School at noon one day in May. He left right away for basic training. He came home in a box last weekend. He had a fast war.

The war was there to take his life because George Bush started it with bold-faced lies.

He got this lovely kid killed by lying.

If Bush did this in Queens, he would be in court on Queens Boulevard on a murder charge.

He did it in the White House, and it is appropriate, and mandatory for the good of the nation, that impeachment proceedings be started. You can't live with lies. You can't permit them to be passed on as if it is the thing to do.

Hi there, my name is Ted Mallory, usually I’m a high school teacher and I try to contribute to a local newspaper when I can, but in these last few weeks of summer, I’m trying to get the word out about my candidacy for the Vice President of these united States.

I believe that it is time to restore not just the honor trust of the office of Vice President, but also the mediocrity and passivity that once characterized the job for almost 200 years had kept the Vice Presidency in obscurity.

If there are any things I know about, its mediocrity, passivity and obscurity. I’ve been mediocre, passive, and obscure most of my life and these are the values which I hope to return to our nation’s second highest office.

If elected Vice President, I promise not to declare myself a fourth branch of government.

I promise to always hang out in disclosed (not “undisclosed”) locations.

I promise not to advise any of my or the President’s staff members to ignore subpoenas from Congress.

I promise if elected, not to profit from no-bid contracts to major defense contractors. Heck, I don’t have any stock-options in Halliberton and I’ve never served on any boards of any corporations in the entire military-industrial complex anyway. Or any oil companies either, for that matter.

I promise to never tell any Senators to “(Explicative-deleted) yourself.” Most of all, I promise not to shoot anybody in the face.

I am even willing to go out on a limb here and promise something that may just offer a great deal of assurance to anyone who usually disagrees with my political opinions- In the event that whoever is elected President should die or become incapacitated and I am asked to ascend the that office, I promise that my first act as president would be to appoint Jimmy Buffett Vice President. My second act would be to resign, thus leaving Jimmy the new President.

Most Presidential candidates are megalomaniacs. It would violate the principles of mediocrity, passivity and obscurity to become President, so I could not remain head honcho any longer than it would take to execute the afore mentioned acts.

Jimmy would help us all have a little fun for a while and, I highly doubt that ‘ol Jimbo would run for reelection once his term was done because he may not be obscure or mediocre, but he’d definitely be missing his hammock after too long in office.

I believe that Vice Presidents need to do what they used to do, golf, attend funerals, and miss spell words like potato.

Granted, I’m not very good at golf, but I would be more than happy to hire a Vice Presidential Golf Pro to give me lessons.

Granted, I don’t own a dark suit, but I’m sure that I’ll fit into about the same size a Dick Cheney.

Granted, it seems as if I know how to spell potato, but that’s just because I ran this column through a spell-check.

If elected Vice President, I could make Barack Obama look taller and skinnier. I could make Hillary Clinton seem more feminine. I could make Fred Thompson seem more Southern and paternal. Heck, I could even make John McCain look... well, I guess I could make him look taller and skinnier too.

In summary, if you elect me your next Vice President, I promise you that I will return the office to the same standards once set by such previous Vice Presidents as Levi Parsons Morton, Schuyler Colfax, and Alben W. Barkley.

Did you know that John Mitchell was the commander of JFK's PT boat group in WWII? Weird coincidence. But hey, Rupert Murdoch supports Hillary Clinton, and Ken Starr's law firm has contributed more to her campaign than to the top 4 Republican candidates combined.

I don't know, maybe this is dull as political cartoons go. I was to lazy to use color this week. I like the smoke from Mitchell's pipe, though. I'm worried that I'm getting in a rut of just doing caricatures with captions. Hopefully my brain will come up with something different next week.
