Above is an image for a story about the state of democratic reforms in China by Edel Rodriguez. I call him "E-Rod." I think this guy is a fantastic illustrator. I love his powerful, socially relevant prints, paintings and drawings. Simple, spartan, influenced by Bauhaus Poster styles, bud edgy, raw and contemporary as hell. Great stuff.
Edel Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971 and promptly began dreaming of becoming a baseball player. He left for America with his parents on a boat when he was eight years old and became a moderately known artist instead. His work is published in a bunch of fancy places like the New Yorker and Playboy.
You can read his blog at http://drawger.com/edel
Here is a shot of his studio. It must be fun to be this guy.
