I'm one of those guys who really only watch two or three NFL games a year. Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl. And to be honest, Thanksgiving is mostly about hanging out with the guys, falling asleep and not having to do dishes or supervise kids. And the Super Bowl is more about the funny and special effects laden commercials. But I don't care who you are, if you NEVER watch football, the first two minutes of Super Bowl 41 (XLI) were phenomenal. First the Bears scoring off of the kickoff return and then their amazing interception just a couple plays later.
My Dad raised us boys to be Bears fans, probably because the Lions of his native Michigan were always so lousy. The incredible 1985 Bears further captured my imagination- fresh off of the thrill of watching our Detroit Tigers win the 84 World Series.
The pounding rain in Miami during Super Bowl XLI made it even better. Football is a game best played in the mud. The only thing better would have been if the game had been played at Soldier Field in Chicago or up in Green Bay in a driving snow and fog.
On the one hand, this was an awesome game for anyone who loves football, or like me, likes football and doesn't watch it all that often on TV.
On the other hand, the Colts won, just like I figured they would, which made it a lousy game for Bears fans, but if you've ever tried to be a Tigers fan (most years) a Lions fan, an Arizona Cardinals fan, or a Diamondbacks fan, or, dare I say it, a Chicago Cubs fan, then you were ready for it.
