Most Military Recruits Come From Working Class Households

The right-leaning think tank, Heritage Foundation, prepared the graphic indicating the household income spread of military recruits 2003 - 2005.
Clearly neither the rich nor poor are supplying our soldiers, but rather the lower end of 'middle' income America.
Nearly 50% of all of the recruits came from $30,000 - $40,000 income families.
Neither the suburban nor inner city families are well represented here and it appears as though the so-called blue collar families are supplying the nations soldiers.
No wonder, then, that so few US Congressmen have children in the armed forces. After all, they are off the chart at the far end. Rather, it is the working stiff's children, the families that find it hard to make it from pay check to pay check who are doing the fighting and dying in Afghanistan and Iraq.
